Pre & Post Workshop Coaching & Support Services (Level IV)

For many, workshops are part of the process of becoming trained. They’re like training wheels. They get you off to a good start – but they are no substitute for practice and coaching that turns the wobbles into success!

Really, it would be ideal if we could find a more accurate word to describe what happens for learners as a result of attending MI workshops. Too often, we hear of workshops being referred to as “training”. The fact is – people don’t end up “trained” at the end of a workshop session.

All instructors who work with our curriculum are keenly aware of how it is that people do NOT learn MI by participating in workshops. True – for many that is a useful first step. Beyond “exposure training” however, the evidence is pretty clear that competency development in MI work comes out of what follows after the time invested in the training room

Reality is that competence in MI does not come from attending workshops. It is constructed. Good workshops provide the stuff of effective construction.

So – if workshops don’t result in folks becoming trained – then what does?

We ensure that people are “exposed” to all of the foundational concepts and skills they need to develop a good self-assessment of their “starting place” for becoming “trained”. We also ensure that everyone who participates in one of our workshops is aware of the learning steps and processes that are required for those who want to move beyond “knowing about” MI – to real competency in the practice of the MI approach.

Motivational Interviewing Tips

All learners who complete one or more of our workshops are entitled to receive a one-year subscription to our “MI T.I.P. of the Week” e-mail circulars.

Planning for the “uptake” and integration of MI work within an organization is an essential part of successful training. It’s important, right from the “get-go” to talk about what options there may be to help your staff get-going!

We provide a diverse range of options to facilitate post-workshop mentoring, coaching, organization guidance and ongoing training to ensure that the training you purchase translates to improved practice and to money well invested.

It’s probably pretty obvious that we believe pretty strongly in the value of coaching to support workshop exposure to MI practice. We’ll explain why post-workshop coaching is such an important element in competency development. We’ll also explain why we offer affordable, cost-effective coaching services Canada-wide to follow all of our workshop sessions.
