INTRO COVER LETTER:  Greetings from the Yukon Territory!

'Skyscraper' in Whitehorse, Yukon
‘Skyscraper’ in Whitehorse, Yukon

You know you are in a very northern city when this 3-story log house is known as their local “skyscraper”! Not kidding … it’s a major tourist attraction here in Whitehorse!

I’m doing two workshops here this week for Kwanlin Dun First Nation. The first one is a 2-day “refresher” for Health staff who had training a few years ago. It’s wonderful that they’re able to do an “MI Check-up” like this. Everyone gets rusty with time, so putting 12 hours into a “re-immersion” experience every few years is a pretty good way to support long-term agency “MI uptake”. Lots of organizations are not able to manage that kind of a learning support strategy – and that’s why I’ve been working so full-tilt these days to produce our ONLINE WORKSHOP follow-up sessions.
LogoThis week’s TIP includes a brief exercise to stimulate thinking about how to make MI reflections more strategic and intentional. Purposeful reflection is an important skill to develop in MI work. It makes interviews more effective and efficient – and prevents “idling”!  BTW – I want to apologize for the delay in getting the weekly TIPs to you lately! Since I started developing the material for the online learning workshops, I haven’t had much time to write. I’ll do my best to get back on schedule with these soon as the new online platform is launched next month!
We think we’ve got a pretty good idea in our hands with our NEW ONLINE OPTIONS! Any day now, agencies will be able to book our entire “Foundations in MI” workshop in twelve 90-minute segments right from their own offices! Just as we do it in our in-person workshops, our online learning option can be attended by up to 22 participants. They run “LIVE-AND-IN-PERSON” with Paul and/or Mary as Facilitator and include a good mix of theory, practice, and video analysis. There’s an average savings of $2000 per workshop because there is no travel/accommodation of any kind needed! (for me, or for staff). I facilitate from my office in Victoria. Start dates for the 12 sessions are booked in advance, just as with any of our live workshops. Agencies can run them either once or twice each week. Give me a shout, anytime, if you’d like to learn more!
